7 of the Most Gorgeous Places to Swim Around the World

Who doesn’t love a good swim? The thought of diving into a body of cool water and forgetting about your day-to-day troubles sounds incredibly tempting. However, swimming in your apartment building’s pool can get boring after a while. So why not plan your next travel destination around swimming?

There are dozens of amazing travel destinations with unique water bodies to swim in. This includes gorgeous sandy beaches, breathtaking swimming holes, and infinity pools overlooking city skylines. There’s no shortage of swimming areas to base your next trip around.

In this guide we have compiled a list of seven gorgeous places to swim around the world. So grab your luggage tag and let’s dive in!

1. The Maldives

The Maldives should be the first place that comes to mind when you picture a tropical paradise. This region located near Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean is warm and sunny throughout the year. Temperatures there rarely dip below 25 degree Celsius.

The Maldives’ tropical setting is further enhanced by its white sandy shores and crystal clear waters that are brimming with life such as sea turtles and clownfish. The swimming here is exquisite, but other water activities such as snorkeling can make a trip to this region a bit sweeter. So pack a pair of swimming trunks in your large luggage piece and set off for this tropical paradise.

2. Lake Geneva, Switzerland

Switzerland may be known as the land of exquisite chocolates and fancy watches, but the region is also brimming with plenty of natural beauty. Geneva in particular is known for being along the shores of Lake Geneva, an iconic lake with other two dozen bathing spots.

The lake is constantly fed from melting ice waters from the adjacent hills and mountains, making your swimming experience a chilly but exhilarating one.

When you’re done swimming you can check out the quaint town of Montreux, which is known for being a fantastic cultural hub. If you visit the region in the Summer months, you can stop by and see many world-renowned musicians perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

So fish out your favorite pink suitcase from the basement and make your next holiday a unique one by setting Geneva as your travel destination of choice.

3. Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Iceland is one of the most interesting travel destinations in the world for its Scandinavian backdrop. The region is considered one of the youngest landmasses in the world because most of it is composed of volcanic islands fed by some of the world’s most active volcanoes.

These volcanoes also make up the different islands in the region, meaning that there are plenty of water inlets to swim in. However, the most interesting swimming spot in the country is a place known as Blue Lagoon. This area is surrounded by unique black lava fields which feed a steady supply of heat to the blue thermal waters which keep the water at a toasty 39 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

The Blue Lagoon area covers an area of over 8,000 square meters, meaning you will have plenty of room to swim around and explore some of the comfiest swim spots on the planet. Mark Iceland on your luggage tag because you won’t want to miss this unique swimming destination on your trip to the Scandinavian country.

4. Massif des Calanques, France

Someone in your social circle has probably bragged about going swimming in the South of France at some point in recent years. Well, you can definitely one-up them by planning a trip to Massif des Calanques in France in  the near future

This area is known for its relaxing secluded coves that are tucked into the rocky South Marseille shoreline. The waters are crystal clear and the beaches are almost always deserted, so why not let loose and go for a dip in one of the most pristine swimming spots on the planet?

You can punctuate your experience with sips of fine French wine and delicious food, and go for a drive through the French countryside when you’re done. Pack a pair of swimming goggles in your pink suitcase because you’re going to want to spend hours of your trip in the calm waters on Massif des Calanques on your trip.

5. Maui, Hawaii

Any American who wishes to get away from the hustle and bustle of urban life thinks about Hawaii when they envision a waterside retreat far from life’s worries.

Maui is the perfect place to experience this. This region is just far enough from the North American coast, but close enough to return if you get an important business call and need to return to civilization.

The region has many close-by islands so you’re never too far off if you decide to unpack your swimming trunks from your large luggage piece and go for a cross-island swim. Our favorite spot is the Pailolo Channel which consists of an eight mile stretch of open water separating islands, which poses an excellent challenge for experienced swimmers, but a great lounging spot for people who want to chill between adjacent Hawaiian Islands.

6. Ik Kil Cenote, Mexico

Mexico is often believed to be a dry and desert region, but we often forget that the area is brimming with its own unique water bodies. One of these is located in Ik Kil Cenote.

This swimming hole is located close to the Mayan Ruins in Chichen Itza, and consists of a limestone bedrock located around a natural underground lagoon. This swimming spot is one of the most gorgeous in the world as natural sunlight filters through the region’s cave entrance and gives the surface a gorgeous turquoise glow.

This swimming hole is perfect for a refreshing mid-afternoon dip before setting off and exploring the adjacent Mexican cities. So mark Ik Kil Cenote on your luggage tag and get to experience something truly unique on your next trip.

7. Phi Phi Islands, Thailand

Let’s be honest here, Thailand is synonymous with sandy beaches and gorgeous shorelines. The region is known for its phenomenal tropical settings, and you were probably anticipating at least one Thai location on our list.

Thailand’s Phi Phi Islands are considered a paradise if you’re a fan of turquoise colored waters and white sandy beaches. You’ve probably already packed an extra pair of swimming trunks and goggles in your pink suitcase just looking up images of this phenomenal travel destination.
